One of the most exciting conversions is currently fitted to our Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9 demonstrator. Dubbed ‘Stage 2’, the hybrid turbo and matching ECU re-programming take the output of the standard FQ320 model up to 410bhp, a full 90bhp over the factory figure. However, the figures are only part of the story. The conversion has been developed by Turbo Technics’ creator Geoff Kershaw and the TT engineers to retain the Evo9’s driveability and reliability, enabling the driver to enjoy the very best of both worlds.

Kershaw explains the philosophy behind this and Turbo Technics’ conversions in general; “When we approach a conversion like this, the key objectives are to provide the driver with enhanced performance but never at the cost of reliability or longevity. We look very carefully at the existing system and using the experience we have gained during our three decades in the automotive industry, we try to eliminate some of the compromises that are inevitable when a mass-produced car is developed. Our guiding principle is to make the good better, not just faster.”
